I do believe we are starting to adjust to this Texas heat! The other night, about 8 pm, we were exiting the grocery story and my husband exclaimed "Oh, it's cooling off!"  Um, it was still 95 degrees F outside. It might be hot and sticky but what better weather for a sundress! When these photos were taken we were under a heat advisory, ranging from 105 to 110 degrees F.  Pretty much unheard of in Minnesota. However, I doubt east Texas has ever had to deal with minus 40 degrees F below zero during the winter months! Let's talk about this lovely dress! I feel really good in this dress. The fit is great, and I love the colors in the fabric. I do wish I could wear cute sandals with small heels, but I'm still numb on my left side and balance is a bit of an issue. Hey everyone!  I sure didn't expect nearly two months to go by before I blogged again.  First of all, thank you for all of your comments, and private messages. Having that support from this lovely sewing community meant so much to me.  I do apologize for not responding to all of them. I'll explain later. Before I get to the update on my interrupted life, I want to share that I have been sewing like crazy!  Here's a collage of some of the items I've sewn since June. Many of the projects, especially the ones I sewed when I first returned to sewing, were very simple. I sewed pull on knit and woven tops as well as pants with flat fronts and elastic backs. I love aprons - even itty bitty Barbie(tm) ones.  Since I'm partial to half aprons myself, I figured Barbie could use a new one. So I whipped one up. I'll show you how so you can whip one up too.   Let's get started.  Download the half-circle apron pattern here .  Please NOTE: This is pattern drawn by hand Cut one apron body and one rectangle 20" x 1-1/2" for the waistband/ties. Pin the lace trim on the right side of the apron matching the bottom edge.  Stitch using a 1/4" seam allowance.  The lace trim after it's stitched to the apron. Turn the bottom edge towards the wrong side of the apron. Lightly press. On the right side stitch close to the edge which will hold the hem in place. Fold the back edge toward the wrong side by 1/4".  Finger press.  Fold another 1/4" toward the wrong side. Press. Stitch side hem in place. Staystitch the waist curve by stitching 1/4" from the edge. Piped meringue. Sounds like something delicious, right? It *is* something delicious - just not something to eat. It's the hem of the skirt I began sewing the other day: The meringue skirt from the Colette Sewing Handbook . I decided to highlight that adorable scalloped hem with some piping. Just need to do a little hand-sewing and she'll be ready to debut at work next week.
