Fabric by Fabric One Yard Wonders Book Blog Tour - and a giveaway!

Image
12/26/11 - Comments on this post have been closed.   Have you seen the new One Yard Wonders book?   I spotted the new book - Fabric by Fabric One Yard Wonders - while browsing the sewing books at my local Barnes & Noble book store.   Something I do quite frequently I might add. I'm really kind of surprised they don't greet me by name. Or at least clear a path for me to the craft book section. And have a cup of chai tea or hot chocolate waiting for me. Oops! Dreaming here.  I'll get back to the book. Anyway, I already had a copy of the book in my hot little hands because my cupcake apron graces pages 101-103!  Of course you knew that already if you've been reading my blog as I posted a sneak peek photo from the book release party during PatternReview Day 2011 .  Here's a few more photos from the book release party at Crafty Planet on my Flickr page.  C'mon Sharon! Get to the good stuff...the book review and the giveaway! All right, ...

One Yard Wonders book giveaway

Image
As I was clearing out dozens of books from my sewing library ( off they went to Half Price Books where someone else will have a chance to find them and love them ) I realized I had purchased an extra copy of One Yard Wonders when it was released with the intention of giving it away. Oops. Better late than never, right? So here you go. If you haven't purchased a copy of this wonderful book, here's your chance to win one. If you've already purchased a copy, here's your chance to win one to use as a gift. It's filled with 101 projects that take less than one yard of fabric. Try the file cabinet cover- designed my moi. Not gonna lie, this was the cover I had sewn for the file cabinet in my sewing studio and I miss it. But it does look pretty darn nice in that photograph. Or sew the 30 minute strapless cami - another one of my projects. Check out my yellow lace version sewn last year. The book is spiral bound, so it lays flat when open. Just leave me a comment te...

Rudy Gets a Transplant Book goes to Amy

Hey Amy ! You had super great odds on this one :-) Would you email me your mailing address at sewingbysharon AT gmail DOT com? I'll get this wonderful book on its way to you. When you read it, keep in mind that the author not only has undergone a kidney transplant due to juvenile diabetes, but has been blind since her teens. Yet her focus and her heart is on helping others. Is it any wonder I consider myself fortunate to know her? Click here to see a local news station talk to Stacey about organ donations as well as her book Rudy Gets a Transplant.

Vintage pattern giveaway - 1967 dress and 1964 skirt

Image
Vintage patterns 1960s Originally uploaded by Sharon Sews So, is anyone interested in these two vintage patterns from 1960s? Just leave me a comment - but not just any comment - tell me what you're sewing right now. If there's more than one of you interested I'll draw a number and post it on Wednesday evening. You won't be hearing from me tomorrow as hubby and I have plans. The one on the left is Simplicity 7129, a "Simple-to-Sew" Jiffy dress pattern from 1967 in a size 16, bust 36. The a-line dress with back zipper and collar has slightly lowered round neckline in front tapering to a "V" neckline in back. V. 1 has short set-in sleeves. Sleeveless V. 2 has tie collar. It has been cut and I checked - all the pieces are there. The one on the right is McCall's 7469 , a 1964 skirt pattern in a size waist 30, hip 40. The three-piece, lightly flared skirt is wrapped and buttoned at front. Right front and waistband are interfaced. Right front of t...

Free Fabric Giveaway!

Ha! I knew THAT would get your attention - it sure got my attention over at Giabella Designs . Anyway, here's the deal. I discovered this fabulous new (to me) blog Sugar Shop . She is celebrating her 100th post with a giveaway a $75 gift certificate to an online fabric retailer - Over the Rainbow (again, new to me). I'd much rather not tell you about the giveaway since it increases my chances of winning (insert evil laugh here) but I can't do that to all of my fellow fabric stash builders. What? You're still here? Get on over there and sign up for your chance to win. You only have until Thursday, July 3. By the way, if you do win, you'll sew something fabulous and post photos on your blog for me to drool over right?

Hey Sally - You're the blogoversary drawing winner

Since there were only 12 of you interested in the drawing, everyone had a pretty good chance of their number being picked. Number 12 came up first using the random integer generator from Random.org Sally was number 12 - congrats Sally. I'll contact you via email. Thanks so much for your kind messages regarding the blog.

Make it Mine Magazine Giveway

Image
I have it! The latest issue of Make it Mine magazine. I haven't had a chance to do more than glance through it but I can tell you that this magazine once again has great ideas for embellishments - not only for clothing and accessories but for home decor. There's a special section on jazzing up your shoes and, just in time for April showers, instructions on customizing an umbrella. Textile crafts aren't the only thing represented in this issue. The charm bracelet made with shink art sent me running to the store for some jewelry findings as it provided an inspiration for a bracelet that I can customize just for me...you'll have to wait and see what it is. Thanks to the generosity of the publisher of this magazine,I have four copies to give away to you! (Two other copies already ended up with an artsy teen-aged niece and a crafty mom of three pre-schoolers - the first time either had seen the magazine - when that mom of three little ones finds time to craft is beyond me....

Make it Mine magazine winners are...

The random integer generator gave me numbers 14 - TwilaO ( The Amazing Mrs. O ), 6 - Stacy ( Stacy Sews ), and 3 - Kasizzle . I'll send each of you an email so I can get your mailing address and get the magazines out to you right away. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I am. Thanks to everyone who left a comment. Some of your blogs were new to me so I've found some new blogs to visit, which I will be doing this week while my sewing machines are being repaired.

You're a winner! (Craft Inc)

That was the subject line in a congratulations email message I received today from Adorn Magazine! There was a giveaway posted on Adorn's blog last week. Apparently Chronicle Books had donated five copies of the book, Craft, Inc . , that could be given away to Adorn's blog readers. To be eligible for the drawing one needed to leave a comment with a useful crafty-business tip. Well I could add a tip - after all, I began selling doll clothes, soft animals, and clothing accessories as a teen way back in the seventies. I did the craft show circuit for years and years and years and learned quite a bit along the way. I was in on the seventies version of "go green" - who remembers the ecology clubs in high schools and the "give a hoot, don't pollute"? I refashioned clothing before it was fashionable to do so. I hand embroidered on my clothing designs I created. I decorated my home with homemade creations because I couldn't afford to buy items in the s...
