Hey sewing friends! We had a family emergency the other day and I wanted to let you know that I won't be posting about sewing for a short time. Heck, I wont' even be sewing.
My beloved son found out Thursday night that he had a brain tumor. From there everything happened very quickly. It was a large tumor and the neurosurgeon said she was surprised he had no neurological symptoms or damage due to it's size. It's possible it had been growing for many years.
He underwent surgery to remove the tumor yesterday, Surgery went as well as expected and we were able to see him last night in the ICU. Medical staff are all pleased with how he is doing.
He's just a young man - 33 - and, except for his premature birth (and a few colds) he's always been very healthy. His only symptoms were severe headaches that began about a month ago - he'd get two or three in one day and then none for a week. They were so painful he made a doctor appointment. That doctor scheduled an MRI for the following day. They immediately put him on anti-seizure medication, gave him something to begin reducing the swelling in the brain, and transported him by ambulance to United Hospital - one of the best in area.
We've spent a lot of time in prayer, and praise God that it was caught in time and the surgeon was able to remove it. We're now waiting to hear if it's cancer and what the next steps will be.
Obviously I'll be spending time with him while he recovers at the hospital.
Thanks for hanging in there with me. Your prayers and support are appreciated.
You and your family will be in my prayers. Thank you for sharing with us and I would say on behalf of all your blogging family, we sincerely hope that the test results show a benign growth and with proper treatment, your son will be back to good health. Prayers for you as well so that you can be the support he needs and through all of this, don't neglect to take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteOh, no. I am so sorry. Blessings to your entire family.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with us. Like the others, I will be praying for him and your entire family. Thank the Lord for the medical staff that did catch it. It's good to see another fellow Christian out there. The Lord will give grace and glory. (Psalm 84:11). May the Lord bless you with His peace that passes all natural understanding.
ReplyDeleteYou and your family will be in my prayers. I can't even imagine how you could type the words on the blog, how scary for all of you. God be with you and your son.
ReplyDeleteI will be thinking of you and all your family at such a difficult time. Your warmth and love are clear from the way you write in your blog, and I'm sure these will both help your boy now. ReplyDeleteLots of thoughts coming your way, Sharon.
I will certainly pray for you and your family. I can testify that God answers prayers. My father had a frontal lobe tumor that was discovered after he had a minor car accident. The tumor was successfully removed and he recovered. I believe the prayers of family and friends were instrumental in his recovery, so I am more than happy to pray for your son. May God bless you all.
ReplyDeleteSharon - I'm glad that the surgery had a positive outcome! You, your son and your family will be in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteI'm sending all the healing thoughts I can toward your family.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom had a brain tumour removed a couple of years back and she recovered fairly quickly and has never looked back. I hope for the same prognosis for your son.
Good luck!! And I too am happy to hear that you found it in time.
ReplyDeleteWow, praying for a speedy recovery. I'm so glad it was found without severe symptoms, and am happy you can spend time supporting your sweet boy.
ReplyDeleteHello Sharon,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Cassandra and I'm a lurker. LOL When I read your post I had to leave you a comment. I want you to know you and your family are in my prayers. I'm very glad to hear his surgery went well. I'll look forward to your update of his progress. Sewing can definitely wait until later.
Be Encouraged!
Will be praying for your son and hoping for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteyour family is in my prayers. we went through something similar. my sis at 21 yrs old had horrible headaches for months and finally went to the doctor. he prescribed strong medication for the headaches and left. while my sister was getting dressed, she had a seizure. luckily my grandma was with her and she got the nurses to come in. they did a MRI and found a tumor in her brain the size of a grapefruit growing through her brain. they took the first front right lobe of her brain out. after the surgery the doctor came out and told us she had 1 yr left to live. i fell apart and began yelling at God. then something turned in me and i started to pray for her healing. a peace came over me and i knew that she would be ok. after a lot of chemo and radiation and 20 years later, my sis is alive and healthy. i experienced the power of prayer in my sister's life and i will continue to pray for your son.
ReplyDeleteblessings,
nori

I will say a prayer for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. I'll be praying for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteCrossing every body bit that it is just a benign meningioma - these can grow to be huge but once removed do not affect life expectancy at all. I know a few people with these and they are totally 100% OK now. Good wishes +++++
ReplyDeleteSending you many, many prayers.
ReplyDeleteI hope your son gets better really soon. You are in our prayers.

ReplyDeleteYou're family is in my prayers. He's a healer!
ReplyDeleteOh no! My heart is going out to you, your son and family. Lots of prayers being said, and good thoughts sent your way.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is indeed a curveball... Unfortunately it doesn't matter how young and healthy you are, some of us just get dealt a bad hand, but his healthiness should be a big asset in keeping strong and getting through all the treatments. Big mental hugs to you and him.
ReplyDelete(and if it does turn out that he'll have to have chemo, please tell him from me that chemo wasn't anywhere bad as I imagined it would be. Sometimes your imagination can be your worst enemy.)
I just came across your blog today... I'm so touched as I have 4small children that I take care of everyday and I can imagine as a mother with a young yet grown son, you want to take care of him still. I pray for God to strenghten you, your son and family during this time. May He comfort your family as you go through the wait and any additional treatment. I'm praying for a victorious outcome for your son and that he will soon be on the road to recovery!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear this. I know a little about how frightening this can be. My brother had brain surgery a few years ago and we were all so afraid for him. It is amazing what can be done these days in surgery. My brother is doing well, back to work and living his life. I truly wish the same for your son.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your son and your family are going through this! I am hoping for good news that it is not cancer.
ReplyDeleteWishing your son a speedy recovery, I hope everything goes okay. You and your family are in my thoughts at this time. Bless you all. X
ReplyDeleteContinuing to pray....
ReplyDeleteMany good wishes for you and your family.
ReplyDeletesending good thoughts your way!
