Abby's had a rough week.
To begin with, a few days ago we noticed that she wouldn't put any weight on one of her front paws. She refused to let us examine it - no matter how gentle we were - so we let her be thinking that she somehow hurt her paw while jumping and running and sliding on the ice and snow in our back yard.
Three days ago we noticed that she was shaking her head and trying to scratch her ear. Sure enough, when we peered inside it was full of gunk. So we called the vet and we made plans to stop by the office and pick up the ear medication on our way home from work.
However, that night Abby wanted to go outside every two hours - not like her at all. When we let her out in the morning she did her business and then yelped! I brought her back in only to have her have an accident in the house ten minutes later...poor thing just couldn't hold it. She also had no desire to eat...she just wanted to curl up and sleep.
My very worried husband took off of work to take her to the vet. It turns out Abby has a bladder infection and ear infection. And on top of that the poor little puppy somehow broke one of her toes on her paw!
After only a day and a half of medication I'm happy to report that Abby (who, by the way has now reached 60 lbs) is back to her normal self. How do I know? Because, as I write this Abby and little Sophia are busy chasing each other around the living room.

P.S. Thank you everyone who left a comment or sent me a note for my niece on the loss of her dog Abby. I sent them all to her in a card.
